Sequence & Pack Works

Preparing clear label artwork

A label needs to work at its actual printed size, on the intended container and within the space available for product information. This guide explains how to organize artwork so that names, identifiers and variable fields remain readable. It covers dimensions, text hierarchy and the relationship between flat artwork and a curved vial surface. Production-specific file requirements should be confirmed separately rather than assumed from a general design guide.

01

Give essential information a clear hierarchy

Place the product name and identifying reference where they can be read first, then organize supporting information around them. Small labels have limited space, so a dense design can become difficult to read even if it looks balanced on a large monitor. Evaluate the artwork at its intended physical size and keep critical text away from uncertain cut or overlap areas.

02

Separate fixed artwork from variable information

A brand mark and standard description may stay constant across a product range, while a batch reference or product code may change. Identify these differences before presenting a label as a reusable template. The final design should also respect the container's labelable area, including any shoulder, curve or seam that affects where the label sits.
